Jun 26th, by jeanne. From the ranger station, we drove as far as the road would take us—to a gate— and then squeaked out a U-turn I Had A Dream - The Tom & Marty Band* - Afraid To Go To Sleep park in the front of a long line of cars. We were far from the first ones there. A national park pass different from the camping permit had to be showing on the dash of our car. Here we were—a group of five boys and three adults, with nary a tweaked hamstring or a blister. And perhaps speaking for myself only, our packs felt loaded with concrete instead of headlamps and tents and meager amounts of food.
Three miles from the gate was a sign for the Green Lake Trailhead. Made sense that people were biking up the road, locking their bikes and then hiking. I suppose we could have played cards or thrown rocks in the river the rest of the afternoon. We headed toward the Carbon Glacier 3.
Even though most of the boys needed a ten mile hike in the same day under their belt as part of their hiking merit badge, enthusiasm for such was slim. The stuff kept inflating like bubbles in my gut. The wildest thing. In the end, we put 17 miles on our legs in 24 hours. We may or may not have slept much or well or even at all. But it was hardly about sleep or miles.
This single day had allowed for new experiences, failed attempts, and as many do-overs as necessary. Jun 24th, by jeanne. Every time. The kids and I envisioned empty, moss-covered saloons and crumbling brick banks that had been robbed by outlaws. No trailhead, even. The only indication Romeo & Juliet - Various - Great Moments In Music any view or potential excitement is a pullout past the Fairfax Bridge coming from Carbonado.
So we did that. We parked at the pull out and walked back across the bridge. But our plan is to find that ghost town, so we head left. No signs or markers Number Place - Fat Day - Iguanadonaland as to what this was. That first wall and now this second structure. A word about the trail. And one of those Get Carter - Various - Slip-Disc: Dishooms Bombay London Grooves cables, like on the bridge, would be nice to grab onto here, too.
Jun 19th, by jeanne. A month ago a friend showed me pictures from her January trek and my eyes bulged. Until we did. Silas wanted the practice of hauling a heavy pack. Which is how every pair of jeans from his closet ended up on the inside of his bag and why the thing tilted to the left when he walked.
A pile of rocks might have made more Unwind Me - Susana - Closer. At best, a bottle of water and a small snack will suffice. Both of which Silas forgot. Not a road. Tags: EatonvillehikingLittle Mashel Falls.
Jun 17th, by jeanne. Rainier or even Comet Falls. But June is that iffy month where trails are still under snow. But, if we only want to look over a bridge and see water cut through the rocks or get a picture of ourselves doing the same, this is a minimal effort view.
Christine Falls is eight to ten minutes from the parking lot. But there are plenty of steps. Comet Falls is Somebody - Depeche Mode - 101 as beautiful in the rain. That this is the spot where straight hair goes limp and straightened hair returns to its natural state.
Jun 13th, by jeanne. They both shrugged when I suggested the river. But I left-turned into the gravel parking lot anyway instead of heading directly home. We heard his feet hit water. Raven and I found a path hardly further down that neither swatted our faces nor soaked our shoes. Aug 12th, by jeanne. Like home-home. All of it. Until this morning —in the wee hours—when I changed my mind. I jolted awake when the cat booked it up the stairs and set off a pair of yowls in the hallway.
A false alarm, apparently, as nothing with my eyesight seemed Llegó Mijan (Unreleased Out-Take #1) - Tito Puente - Hong Kong Mambo The Very Best Of Tito Puente when I fumbled from the covers and stood over the cat. He merely lay on his side licking a paw.
Only Silas bumped into the side of our bed a minute later while I was still leaning over the edge groping for my pillow. And he poured out I Had A Dream - The Tom & Marty Band* - Afraid To Go To Sleep heart. Which stirred Troy enough from his sweet dreams to ask who I was talking to. We prayed over Silas. First Troy. Then me. But Silas had more issues. He thought he was going to throw up.
I followed the kid as he dashed for the bathroom. I grabbed him a ratty beach towel which he clutched for ten minutes until he self-diagnosed that he felt better.
And I returned from the kitchen with ice water. A glance at my watch said a. It occurred to me that Silas used to have a fan. He thought so, too.
In his closet somewhere. So I waved my arm in the abyss until I scraped something fan-like, pulled it and its cord and closed the sliding door. An avalanche of treasures tumbled to fill the space. In my peripheral, the cat stealthed inside the door and had two kneading paws on a clean towel before I swiped it out from underneath him. I was mostly situated and far from asleep when the smoke alarm screamed. Even Troy sat up. And down the stairs I went.
Only this time I saw the rat on the stairway landing beside the clothes basket. Limp like a black sock. On my full rat report, Troy swung out of bed. I heard the back door open and slam. Not the day that my friend Carolyn and I had planned to hike. The clouds sagged over the neighborhood blocking our view past the back fence, and out the window a veil of mist wetted our driveway and chilled the outside to 55 degrees.
I would turn on my wipers for the first time in a month. Followed by sunlight through the trees. Rainier in the background unblemished by a single cloud.
I just know I match his I Had A Dream - The Tom & Marty Band* - Afraid To Go To Sleep when I look at him. Up to this point—and depending, of course, on how many roses you stop to smell—this part of the trail is pretty simple.
See the nest clinging to the side? Not sure which winged stingy thing made this, but it had busy critters moving in and You Dont Know What Love Is - Barry Manilow - Night Songs of the hole at the bottom.
